Downtown Fremont Inc. will be hosting Holly Jolly Events in Downtown Fremont to get the holiday season started. The Tree Lighting on Friday, November 27 is at 7pm and Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 28. Attendance to these events is free to the public.
The Tree Lighting will take place at the corner of Front and State Streets by The Santa House Downtown. Prior to the Tree Lighting from 5-7pm, Santa will be in his house for children to visit and tell him what they want for Christmas. Santa will have hours from 1-3pm on Saturday, November 28 also. During this time Covid-19 guidelines will be adhered to by social distancing, masks required, hand washing station, and monitoring of your health before coming to the events.
To kick off the Tree Lighting, there will be dancers from Kassandra’s Dance Academy and The Garrison Restaurant will be roasting chestnuts and other holiday foods to get everyone in the spirit of the holiday season. For the tree lighting, Front Street between State Street and Croghan Street will be closed to traffic, for portable bleachers to be placed for sitting for the event to ensure social distancing.
Small Business Saturday is an effort to support local shops that make our communities strong. This event encourages people to Shop Small & Shop Local and brings more holiday shopping to small businesses. Kristie Bilger, Executive Director, “The war on small businesses is happening. While franchises are great, a lot of that money leaves the community while most all of small business money stays in the community.” Small Business Saturday is a great event through American Express to make a BIG IMPACT within Downtown Fremont by shopping small and supporting local.
From November 27 through December 14, 2020, for every $10 you spend at participating downtown retail businesses, your name will be added into the 2 drawings being held on Monday, December 14, 2020. The first name out receives 250 Downtown Fremont Dollars. The second name out receives 100 Downtown Fremont Dollars. Downtown Dollars are redeemable at the many participating Downtown Fremont stores.
Santa is in the House on the corner of Front Street and Croghan Street in December on Friday’s from 5-7pm and Saturday’s from 1-3pm. Outside The Santa House Downtown is a mailbox for children to mail Christmas letters to Santa and receive a letter back from the North Pole from November 27 to December 19, no stamp required, but each envelope must have a return address.
